Erin Andrews Still Alive in Dancing With The Stars!

Everyone’s favorite sideline reporter and adorable little blonde hottie made it past another tumultuous week on the hit program “Dancing With The Stars.”

Although her Tango wasn’t exactly up to Par from the night before, she escaped harm’s way by being voted out of the bottom two the other night when the fans themselves came to the rescue and ensured she had another chance to impress the judges – and America.

Andrews is coming off a rough year in which videos of her in the nude we leaked on the internet.  The only problem with the videos?  Ummmm, they were being shot by a peeping Tom stalker who had been following her around the nation to all the different hotels she had been staying at!

The pervert was caught a few months ago and sentenced to federal prison for 3 years – but if you ask me he should’ve gotten a lot more than that for the hell she put the ESPN host through.  The case has apparently brought her more unwarranted attention during her run on the DWTS competition, as she has now upped her security detail after receiving numerous threats on her life in recent weeks!

We all hope for the best Erin and make us girls proud on the show!

Annette Obrestad Wins 2010 Aussie Millions Event

annette winningThe 2010 Aussie Millions was a destination for many poker players, especially the pros, wanting to earn a title. Over the history of the Aussie Millions, a woman has never claimed a title, that is, until now. Annette Obrestad entered the $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha tournament and was able to outlast the field to claim the first place prize, becoming the first women to win an Aussie Millions Event.

The event saw 160 players competing and when it came down to final table play Obrestad would find herself third in chips. Michael Sampieri would be the first to go after facing Billy Seri. Just minutes later Obrestad would claim her first victim, Tony Bloom.

Paul Taylor would be the next to go and would be followed soon by Emad Tahtouh who would be eliminated at the hands of Obrestad. Con Angelakis would be knocked out next and then Obrestad would take out her next victim Oliver Gill. This would leave Ryan Gutch, Billy Seri and Obrestad. To keep with the trend of the final table Obrestad would knock out Gutch in third place to cement her place in heads up play.

When heads up play began Obrestad would stay in the lead and would soon claim the title. On the final hand both would go all in on a board of A-9-A-2-10. Seri held K-8-J-9 and Obrestad held K-J-J-2, so she would claim the win, knocking out Seri in second place.

Annette’s win further cements her status as one of the best women poker players in the world. Becoming the first woman to win an Aussie Millions event is a sweet accomplishment and just goes to show how women can be successful in an industry dominated by men.  She is currently a sponsored pro but has been known to root on friends of hers who play on Carbon Poker, a popular Merge Network poker site.

Final Results:

1st: Annette Obrestad – $40,000
2nd: Billy Seri – $31,200
3rd: Ryan Gutch – $22,800
4th: Oliver Gill – $17,600
5th: Con Angelakis – $11,200
6th: Emad Tahtouh – $8,800
7th: Paul Taylor – $6,400
8th: Tony Bloom – $4,800
9th: Michael Sampieri – $3,200

Study Proves Women Have the Advantage when it comes to College Sports Opportunities…So What?

I’m sure many of you would believe the above statement was a lie but it actuality it is true. A study was recently concluded by the College Sports Council on who has more opportunities in the college sport realm, men or women, and surprisingly women have the advantage.

The College Sports Council limited their analysis to nineteen sports where both men and women play. These sports include volleyball, basketball and tennis. The study was released on Wednesday and it determined that male high-school athletes in the sports that both sexes play have a harder time finding opportunities than women especially in landing college scholarships.

Eric Pearson the chairman of the College Sports Council commented: “We are trying to shine the light on a problem that exists where football frequently clouds the issue. We’re not trying to tear down the women’s numbers. We just want it to be even and fair. We support both men and women playing sports. We want more sports. We want more athletes to play, both men and women, and the NCAA’s rules make that difficult.”

Critics of the study have stated that the study ‘conveniently’ eliminates football from the analysis and focuses narrowly on certain aspects while leaving out additional factors including total money spent on scholarships.

Regardless of whether women have an advantage in college sports scholarships, men have more opportunities to succeed outside of college. Women sports players have fewer places to go after college and will make far less money than the man for doing so, so I do not understand what all the fuss is about. Women should be fussing that they have few choices to move on in the sporting industry after they leave college.

Pro Golfer Cristie Kerr to Host Charity Tournament

Cristie Kerr is this year’s LPGA tour’s leading money winner and the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open champion so you know she knows her way around the golf course. She will soon be competing in the Solheim Cup in Illinois but before that Kerr will be hosting a special charity golf tournament to raid money for her Breast Cancer organization.

Kerr is hosting the golf tournament on August 14th at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City to raise money for her foundation Birdies for Breast Cancer. Kerr established the organization in 2003 when her mother Linda Kerr was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully her mother is in remission and Kerr wants to use her status to raise money for the cause.

Kerr commented: “My mother getting breast cancer changed my life and changed my outlook on life. Golf was no longer life and death for me, which led to a dramatic jump in success in my career. I stopped focusing 100% on golf and focused on other things, which helped my golf.”

Other LPGA tour members will be joining Kerr on the green. Those set to attend are: Natalie Gulbis, Morgan Pressel, Erica Blasberg and Brittany Lincicome. The event is oversold but those who would like to make a donation to the Birdies for Breast Cancer foundation can make a direct donation by visiting the CristieKerrgolf website.

Kerr donates $50 for every birdie and $100 for every eagle she gets while on tour. She has raised more than $750,000 through her golf game, fundraisers and donations. Kerr is hoping to raise at least $1 million more in the next few years.

LIPS Poker Tour Announces Surprise Tournament!

LIPS Poker TourThe LIPS Poker Tour, one of the most successful women’s only national poker tournament series out there, is doing some very big – and ummm, unusual things – for their upcoming 5th season.

From what I’ve been reading around a few poker forums, the LIPS Tour is going to be holding their very first Men’s ONLY Poker Tournament.  If you’re just as boggled as I am about this, then please feel free to comment on this post, lol.  My good friend Cathy over at 4Flush.com wrote a very interesting article on it that won’t be posted officially for another few days – however, you can check out an excerpt of it below:

The Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS) is set to host their first ever Men’s Only Poker Tournament, which will be held during the Ladies International Poker Series Championship Weekend at the Golden Nugget Casino, located in Las Vegas Nevada.

Maybe the wives and girlfriends just wanted the men to have something to do? Sort of like the old time slot machines.

“Men often ask me why there are no “men only” poker tournaments and my answer to that is – if you want one, make one!” said Lupe Soto, LIPS Founder. ‘We’re happy to officially host the first one!” she added.

Now I’m all for men and women being equal, but this is one of my favorite poker tours because it’s a time where women can hang around women and just play poker!  No worrying about certain men looking down at us for not being “as good” as them at the poker tables, no unusual flirting, none of that nonsense that comes along with being a woman these days when you sit down at a table in the casinos.  Sorry boys, I just think that after what we put up with sometimes with our opposite sex counterparts that we just deserve a little poker time for just us ladies!  LOL.

Touching Up On Your “Bro”manctionary – One Word at a Time.

I got passed along a pretty funny email about how men have been recently proclaiming their so-called “bromances” with one another through the gift silly words with the word “BRO” in it.  You know, it never ceases to amaze me just how far the human mind stretches when it comes to things like this, so I’m obviously compelled to share such things when they come to light right in front of me!

Personally, I don’t think this bromance phenomenon caught on too much until the hit movie “I Love You, Man” was released a few months back.  The flick, which starred Paul Rudd as an overachieving realtor who came to the painful realization he needed more  guy friends in his life, would use such funny one-liner “bro”-isms as Bro Montana and Tico Brohay throughout the film as he went on a series of ever-compelling “man dates” to find his one tru BRO-mate, lol.

I for one didn’t think too much of these words until I got this  in my Inbox with a few of the top current Bro-isms that are out there – and simply put – I was both amazed and surprised at just how many words you can flip around and make humorous just by adding a little Bro-spice, haha.  So amazed actually that I had to add a few more to the list and get it out there for my male base – which hopefully will grow a little bit more as the months go bye *wink wink* (what do I gotta do?  Post a peeping Tom video like Erin Andrews has out right now?! Ha.).  Anyways thoug, if you’re looking to laugh a little – or maybe if you’re  just looking to have a an added arsenal of “BRO” words to say to your fellow compadres – then check out this fun list that’s been compiled below – just for you BOYS.  Oh and if you’re looking for some sexy poker bonuses or even just a solid rakeback deal – check out our partner sites in this article!

Tom Watson’s British Open Hopes Dashed!

In what was leading up to be one of the bigger sports stories of 2009, Tom Watson’s near-flawless run at the British Open ended during the final stages of the last round today.  Approaching the 18th hole, Tom Watson only need to hole in an 8-foot putt to seal a 1-shot win over Stewart Cink.  Unfortunately he misread the putt completely and it skipped by the hole!

This would set up a 4-hole playoff between the 59-year old Watson and the much younger and fresher Stewart Cink.  It was playing out to be one of the most dramatic British Open finishes ever – that was until Tom Watson showed his age a bit during the playoff.  His shots seemed to drift off and he was scrambling just to save par on the first few holes against Cink – at one point he look completely fatigued and was showing signs of frustration after he hooked his drive on one of the playoff holes.

On the other hand, Stewart Cink was simple playing perfect golf during his run at the 4 extra holes, finishing off Watson with 2 birdies and no bogeys whatsoever.  As they both approached the final hole one once more (first time was in regulation, the 2nd in the playoff), you could clearly see the sadness in Watson’s eyes, especially since this would be his last British Open ever (Open Rules state that no player 60 years of age or older can compete – unless they win the event on their 59th birthday).  The crowd cheered hard for the elder Watson, as this Links legend tipped his hand one last time to a gallery that seemed very honored and blessed to see someone like him make such a deep run at such a tough tournament.

Congrats to Stewart Cink for a hard-fought victory and for bringing a lot of action to tons of online sports betting sites during this particular event!

Serena Williams Takes Down Big Sis at Wimbledon!

One of sports most formidable female athletes added yet another nice piece of bling to her hardware collection, as Serena Williams beat big sister Venus at the Grand Final at Wimbledon this past weekend!  It was the third time she has taken down tennis’s biggest Grand Slam of the year – and the third time she did so by beating her older sibling.

"I didn’t think about Venus at all today. I just saw her as an opponent," said Serena after the match’s conclusion.

It was a surprisingly easy victory for the younger Williams, as she buried her big sis in straight sets and didn’t look winded whatsoever during the match.  She was all smiles when she was awarded the winner’s trophy, and Serena can now add Grand Slam #11 to her list of accomplishments.

Does anyone else notice how stylish Serena looks at these events?!  If only tennis could be played in stilettos – she would absolutely rock the hell out of em!  Haha.

Moved Over To New Domain and Transitioning With More Posts!

I know I know it’s been FOREVER and a day since this site has seen an update or two – or 55 – or something like that!  I’ve been pretty busy with my own life and have since moved away from California and my old domain at SoCalSportsChick.com!  It was definitely a crazy transition and now that I’m here in Arizona I’m going ahead and just changing up a few things on the site design so it’s easier to look at and read.

I hope to get things going for this site in the coming weeks and make it a really cool blog full of stuff the ladies (wink wink) will want to read – as well as give the guys something fun to view while at work or just kickin back a beer at home!  I’m so sorry again about the lack of updates and not doing so much with this site lately…but I’m definitely going to be changing that up soon!

Talk soon folks! And enjoy the ASU hotties tonguing each other while I prepare for my triumphant return!
