Pro Golfer Cristie Kerr to Host Charity Tournament
Cristie Kerr is this year’s LPGA tour’s leading money winner and the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open champion so you know she knows her way around the golf course. She will soon be competing in the Solheim Cup in Illinois but before that Kerr will be hosting a special charity golf tournament to raid money for her Breast Cancer organization.
Kerr is hosting the golf tournament on August 14th at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City to raise money for her foundation Birdies for Breast Cancer. Kerr established the organization in 2003 when her mother Linda Kerr was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully her mother is in remission and Kerr wants to use her status to raise money for the cause.
Kerr commented: “My mother getting breast cancer changed my life and changed my outlook on life. Golf was no longer life and death for me, which led to a dramatic jump in success in my career. I stopped focusing 100% on golf and focused on other things, which helped my golf.”
Other LPGA tour members will be joining Kerr on the green. Those set to attend are: Natalie Gulbis, Morgan Pressel, Erica Blasberg and Brittany Lincicome. The event is oversold but those who would like to make a donation to the Birdies for Breast Cancer foundation can make a direct donation by visiting the CristieKerrgolf website.
Kerr donates $50 for every birdie and $100 for every eagle she gets while on tour. She has raised more than $750,000 through her golf game, fundraisers and donations. Kerr is hoping to raise at least $1 million more in the next few years.
